When this film came out, I was not hip to it. A friend of mine clued me in and when I watched it, I was intrigued from start to finish. From the all star cast to the intelligent fast paced editing and overall story telling, this film was and still is a gem. One of the necessary things for me as a video editor is to have a big music library – which scores and soundtracks (at minimum) contribute to 50% of the mood, tone and vibe of a film and it’s many components. Actually, without music and soundscapes we would not make that deep emotional connection with a film.
The most memorable musical scene in the film (and easily one of my faves period) was with Brad Pitt in this seedy underworld bare knuckle boxing match. No spoiler alert here, so that’s all I’ll say about that, but, it was this very scene that introduced me to the Stranglers. What a wonderful way to be introduced to new music (an all time fave in my playlist) and be plunged into a memorable jaw dropping moment in the film.
